Focusing on physical health, mental clarity and spirit strengthening, Riverview adult martial arts students progress through a curriculum that blends classic hard and soft techniques.
Riverview Martial Arts practices Universal Movement (UM): a unique blend of Okinawan Karate, Chinese Kung Fu, Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do, Aiki-jujitsu, Goju Ryu, Chi Gung, and Tai Chi Chuan.
Universal Movement students gain a total package of physical health and self-defense skills, taught by experienced black sashes in a dojo built from mutual respect, kindness and personal growth.
Practicing Martial Arts
People welcome martial arts into their lives for a few different reasons and they stay for many more, including:
- Physical fitness
- Mental sharpness
- Inner strength
- Self-defense and protection
Our Topsham campus is home to a 164 acres of trails, campsites, wildlife and training areas. Along with traditional martial arts, training in nature is an added benefit of Universal Movement. With outdoor martial art classes, canoeing, hiking and skill building seminars set in nature, students gain the insight, deep relaxation and fresh vitality nurtured by the great outdoors.
Martial arts typically becomes a journey to better ones self over time. Our school welcomes students to enjoy that journey, embrace the ups and downs that come with improving oneself, and know that we too face those challenges and triumphs in the martial arts.
Our school chooses to display tuition rates on an annual basis, as that is the way that 99% of our clients experience it. Our martial arts tuition includes all services and fees required to participate in our program and does not require students to arbitrarily remain in the program for any reason.

- What is a typical class like? The best way to learn about our classes is to visit our dojo! Chi Gung and Tai Chi practices are blended into workouts producing a fresh flow of energy within muscles, ligaments and tendons; all together promoting long lasting results for integrated health.

- Is it hard to progress? Do you test for rank?
Universal Movement’s non-competitive curriculum recognizes physical and personal growth without the need for testing. Inherent in each class is the opportunity for personal acheivement. With regular attendance and a sincere effort, each student can progress at a rate that suits their ability and needs without the stress of performance!
- Is there a class curriculum?

- How often should I come to class?
Student tuition includes 2 weekly classes at your location with the option to make up missed sessions. Students are strongly encouraged to attend at least 2 classes per week in order to truly benefit from their martial art education.
